Findhorn Beach~ Forres

Hello everyone! Now that I have explained a little about myself and the meaning behind this blog, I am so excited to share my first, and childhood favourite, hidden touring spot in Scotland!

Travelling there

Findhorn is located thirty miles from Inverness, which is perfect for visiting as a day trip, or enjoyed as a relaxing weekend stay. Findhorn is also only five miles from Forres, but don't fret, there is plenty to do and see in this small coastal village. As a family, Findhorn was always the highlight of our annual summer camping trips as you were always guaranteed good weather and good times. You will know you have entered the correct village when you smell salt water, seaweed, and home-made salt and vinegar chips, drifting through the air.

Staying overnight

In terms of overnight stays, there is several choices in Findhorn such as the Findhorn Bay campsite, which was where we camped when I was younger, and where we now park our motorhome. The facilities in this campsite are immaculate, with laundry and shower facilities it really makes you feel at home. For young children, the play park in the centre of the campsite will keep children entertained and occupied for hours, speaking from experience. If camping/touring isn't your cup of tea, then there is plenty of holiday rentals throughout the village which may be more appealing to your taste.

Food & Drink Recommendations

In the heart of Findhorn village, you won't go hungry as there are two gorgeous restaurants: The Kimberley Inn and The Crown and Anchor. A standout meal in the village must be the fish and chips, nothing beats fresh caught fish, served with chunky salt and vinegar chips! Makes me hungry even thinking about it. After a hearty meal in one of the restaurants of your choice, you can walk to your hearts content as the views are endless. A common walk for us as a family was across the beach front, picking out some perfect skimming stones and playing fetch with the dog in the sea. On a clear Summer’s night if you wait long enough, you will see the stunning sunset across the pier, radiating red and orange across the water. Something about the sunset in Findhorn is that bit more special than anywhere else.

I hope you enjoyed hearing a bit more about my travels as a child and feel inspired to explore Findhorn village in the near future! New blog post tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled!
